Concept Attainment -  is an indirect instructional strategy that uses a structured inquiry process. It is based on the work of Jerome Bruner. In  concept attainment , students figure out the attributes of a group or category that has already been formed by the  teacher .  It can be thought of as a game of "find the rule".  Concept Development -   The  Concept  is the big idea or generalization contained in the Learning Objective. In  Concept Development , you explicitly  teach  the students the  concept , what it is, the generalization, the big idea. The  Concept  includes a written, bulletproof definition, along with examples and non-examples (if applicable). I think this is also a beneficial way of teaching because it is structured inquiry to help the students determine the attributes of something the teacher has formed. What is it? It is an attempt to understand why things happen. Many professions spend countless hours trying to understand the cause and effect of human and natural behavior.  Why is it important? A goal of education is to create empowered, analytic thinkers, capable of thinking through complex processes to make important decisions. This is my understanding of the 5 E's teaching style. 5 E's Popplet I really like inquiry. I love that it is essentially student lead. They are coming up with questions. They are searching for answers on their own leading to their own discoveries.
