Concept Attainment and Development

Concept Attainment - is an indirect instructional strategy that uses a structured inquiry process. It is based on the work of Jerome Bruner. In concept attainment, students figure out the attributes of a group or category that has already been formed by the teacherIt can be thought of as a game of "find the rule".

Concept Development - The Concept is the big idea or generalization contained in the Learning Objective. In Concept Development, you explicitly teach the students the concept, what it is, the generalization, the big idea. The Concept includes a written, bulletproof definition, along with examples and non-examples (if applicable).

I think this is also a beneficial way of teaching because it is structured inquiry to help the students determine the attributes of something the teacher has formed. For example students can observe teacher given examples to gain a basic knowledge and have an idea. The teacher could also give example of things unlike what she is teaching and let them decide.
