Animoto-The worlds tilt and seasons
Seasons
6th Grade Science Standard 2: Students will understand how Earth's tilt on it's acis changes the length of daylight and creates the seasons.
Ed. Tech. Standard 4: Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, to remediate skill deficits, and to facilitate learning through the curriculum.
I created this Animoto to help my students understand the seasons. Seasons can be confusing when you don't really know what causes them. Its not winter just because there is snow on the ground and its cold. Its not fall because the leaves have a mind of their own and decide to change orange. Its because of earths tilt that we have seasons. When the sun is shining directly on the northern hemisphere we have summer. When the sun is shining directly on the southern hemisphere they are having summer and we are having winter. In between those times we have fall and spring.
I want my students to know and understand why we have seasons. Many individuals think that we get our seasons from being closer and farther from the sun. But that's not right, its because of earths tilt. Seasons are important because we tell time by them, plan our calendar around them and look forward to the changes they bring. Because seasons are based on the rotation of the planet around the sun, the seasons change at the same time every year. Even though two halves of the plant experience opposite seasons at the same time!
